7th March

Greg Barker opened the re-developed Hillier garden centre near Stone Cross on Friday when he congratulated Chairman Robert Hillier OBE on the success of his local project.

Greg was given a guided tour of the new centre, a plant-based business where gardening predominates and a high level of importance is placed on customer service and presentation.  Mr Hillier explained that, together with their new partners who have opened store outlets on the site, the centre will provide employment for some 50 local people, more than double what the old centre provided.

Speaking in Stone Cross, Greg said:

“This new garden centre is a great commitment to local business and jobs for local people. Looking after our gardens is a real joy for so many of us, and I am delighted that Hillier have invested in this exciting re-development in such an environmentally sound way. I understand that, except for one skip load, Hillier have recycled the whole of the old garden centre.”
