GREG MEETS WORLD WAR II VETERANS IN BEXHILL

10.11.14 for immediate release:  Bexhill MP, Greg Barker, visited Mais House Royal British Legion residential home in Bexhill last Friday to talk with residents about issues are that important to them.

All residents of Mais House have either served in the armed forces or are closely related to someone who did.  Many of them saw active service during World War II and later conflicts. They told Greg about their experiences in the Army, Royal Airforce and Royal Navy.

Residents talked to Greg about the importance of Remembrance Sunday for all generations, and how this year’s commemorations marking 100years since the start of World War I have captured the interest of the nation.

Discussions then moved onto local and national issues, including the Bexhill to Hastings link road, immigration, renewable energy and political leadership.

Greg said “I was privileged to visit the residents of Mais House where we had some really interesting discussions about local and national issues that are important to them.

It was humbling to hear their stories of service for our country which really brings home the debt of gratitude we owe to all service men and woman who have played their part in protecting our freedom and democracy, especially at this time of the year when the nation collectively remembers those who have died in service since World War I.”
