Let Government Know Your Views on the Sussex Mayoral Combined Authority

In December the government White Paper invited areas such as Sussex to apply to become unitary councils and have Mayoral Combined Authorities. It was clear that areas could either apply for this or later have it imposed on them.  East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove therefore applied for this and were one of the 6 areas selected.

The government has now opened the public consultation into the mayoral authority but have stated that the consultation is NOT into the associated reorganisation of local government to form unitary authorities.

This now the chance for the public, local councils and other organisations to provide greater detail in what we think a Mayor will look like for Sussex.

The consultation asks questions about views on:

  • The geography of the new authority
  • The governance of the Mayor
  • How the Mayor can support the local economy
  • How the Mayor can improve local living standards and outcomes
  • How the Mayor can help protect our environment
  • How the Mayor can best support the specific needs of people across Sussex

The consultation will close on 13th April this year.

What We're Doing:

As your Conservative Councillors across the East Sussex, we will be submitting our points on how the Mayor can best serve you but all views are welcome. To find out how you can make your own submission, either by online survey or another method, follow the link to the government’s website at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/sussex-and-brighton-devolution/sussex-and-brighton-devolution-consultation.
