Huw Merriman MP

Local MP, Huw Merriman, joined a whole school assembly at Stone Cross School in Pevensey to celebrate the school’s achievement of the prestigious NAACE ICT Mark.

During the assembly, Huw presented the award to the school’s ICT leader, Ms Karen Farley, who had taken the lead role in achieving the Naace ICT Mark for Stone Cross School.  Huw said to the pupils “This award is a fantastic achievement as it is only awarded to schools which can demonstrate excellent use of technology to support teaching and learning. You should be very proud that Stone Cross School is an outstanding example of how ICT can be used to help the whole school.”

Headteacher, Mrs Emma Clements, also asked Huw to present school council badges to the newly-elected school councillors. Two representatives from each class, from Year 1 to Year 6, were congratulated by Huw for being elected by their classmates to represent them on the school council.

Speaking after the assembly, Huw said “It was a great pleasure to be invited to Stone Cross School to help with the double celebration of the award of the ICT Mark and the appointment of this year’s school councillors.  A lot of work has gone into achieving the Naace ICT Mark and full credit goes to Ms Farley for all her work in leading the school to achieve this award which has been a fantastic team effort.  Stone Cross School is an excellent example of how ICT can enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum and also support parents and the wider school community.

“It was an honour to present the new school councillors with their badges. I hope they enjoy representing their classmates on the school council throughout the year. This new responsibility is bound to be an interesting and rewarding experience for them.”

Mrs Clements added “We were thrilled to have Huw visit our school, talk to the children about parliament, present us with our Naace ICT Mark as well as welcome our new School Council. He highlighted our achievement to the whole school.”
