Statement on Employment Tribunal relating to Lehman Brothers International (Europe) (in Administration)

Date: 10.02.2016

“Prior to being elected in May 2015 as the Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, I was employed as a Lawyer and Managing Director by the Joint Administrators of Lehman Brothers International (Europe) (in Administration). During the seven years I worked for the Joint Administrators, I recruited, and managed, a team of lawyers to assist with the unwinding of this complex insolvency.

With the unwind exercise moving to its final stages, a number of lawyers were made redundant. One of these lawyers subsequently contested a redundancy decision and filed a claim which was heard by the East London employment tribunal from 2 February 2016.

During the early stages of the tribunal the claimant made personal accusations against me and some of my former colleagues. These were untrue and contested. Today, following an application to dismiss a large part of the case by our legal team, I was pleased to learn that the claimant has decided to fully withdraw her case and all the allegations without reservation.  No money has been paid to the Claimant.

Although this case has required me to attend the tribunal on occasions over the past week, my priority has always been my current role as the MP for the Bexhill and Battle constituency. I look forward to getting on with focusing my time and energy on serving my constituents.

I am grateful to family, friends, colleagues and my local conservative association for their support during this case. I was also heartened by the number of messages of support I received from constituents.”
