Huw standing down

On behalf of the BBCA, we are very saddened to see our MP Huw Merriman make the decision to not stand at the forthcoming General Election. I attach the letter Huw has issued to BBCA members.

We want to express our gratitude and appreciation for everything Huw has done during these very challenging years and wish him the best of luck with his future.

Many agree that Huw has served us well in Bexhill and Battle and whilst he may not have been able to achieve everything he wanted to as our MP, there is no doubt he always performed well and did the best that he could for all his constituents.

SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR A NEW CANDIDATE:

CCHQ have advised that we now fall into Emergency Selection procedures and they will be dealing with the shortlisting of candidates to be invited to attend a joint BBCA Executive Council and Special AGM. We expect three candidates to be shortlisted and they will be required to provide a formal presentation to members and the proceedings will be overseen by an Independent Moderator, commissioned by CCHQ. Given that the deadline for candidate nominations is 7 June, speed is of the essence. I will be keeping members informed of progress over the coming days and inviting you to attend the above. It is likely that the meeting may be held on Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd June.

Appreciate there is not a lot of notice for members to participate, but I hope you will agree we need to ensure that we select the best candidate to go forward and help us retain our Bexhill and Battle seat.

Kind regards to all.
